Xuan Loc district’s farmers set to harvest bumper corn crop
The harvest season begins for corn farmers in the Xuan Loc district, Dong Nai province. Farmers in the district cultivated over 6,000 hectares of corn for the 2010-2011 winter-spring crop. Xuan Loc district as a whole expects to harvest 66,000 tonnes -70,000 tonnes of corn expect to harvest a total of 10 million tonnes of paddy from this winter-spring crop. Presently, the corn prices stay around VND 7,000 a kilogram, up VND 2,000 compared to the same period last year. With this price, local farmers can get a profit of VND 50,000 –55,000 million every hectare of corn after the production cost is deducted, an increase of VND 15-20 million compared to the same period last year.
