Farmer Tho Nghi in Ruong Lon hamlet said that farmers in the hamlet, most of whom are the Choro people, obtained an average yield of 7-8 tonnes per hectare from more than 60 hectares in the winter-spring rice crop. Wet rice is being sold at VND4,500-4,800 a kg. With this price, local farmers can get a profit of VND 25 –30 million every hectare of rice. Typically, farmer Tran Van Gioi in Ruong Lon hamlet cultivated over 3 hectares of rice for the winter-spring crop. Thanks to application of advanced farming technique, Gioi achieved a yield of up to 8-9 tonnes per hectare of rice and he earned VND75-85 million per hectare of rice.
Farmers in Bao Vinh commune planted 124 hectares of rice for the winter-spring crop, The largest cultivation areas in the commune included Ruong Lon, Bao Vinh B and Suoi Chon, Hoang Xuan Viet, Chairman of Bao Vinh Commune’s Farmers’ Association said. Local farmers have used advanced technologies in agriculture and high-yield crop and most farmers have replaced human labour with machines which helped them to significantly reduce costs and production cost.
