(ĐN)- The area planted to rice in Dong Nai is estimated to be around 71,000 hectares this year, down by nearly 4,000 hectares over last year. There is a decline in land devoted to rice cultivation in the province because local authorities have reclaimed rice growing areas for other purposes and local farmers have switched to cultivate other crops that generate greater income. However, the total output of rice is forecast to reach over 336,000 tons this year, an increase of more than 2,000 tons over last year. The localities with the largest areas under rice cultivation are districts of Tan Phu, Xuan Loc and Dinh Quan.
