Ma minority woman in Ta Lai develops art of brocade weaving

(ĐN)- During the past time, Dong Nai province carried out some projects to help restore brocade weaving among Chau Ma ethnic in Ta Lai commune, mountainous Tan Phu district. Accordingly, the province organized weaving training courses for local people, with half of them becoming professional weavers. Brocades made by the Ma ethnic people are distinguished by flower, plant, bird and deity designs, the products attract not only domestic customers, but also foreign visitors when they came to the Ta Lai.

The Ma minority woman’s products are popularly sold in Cat Tien national park, Ta Lai Cultural House, and tourist areas in Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc provinces.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyet, owner of a brocade weaving workshop in the commune, said that 100% of Ma ethnic people in Ta Lai are farmers who live in difficult circumstances, however their lives have been improved thanks to brocade weaving development. Established in 2006, Tuyet’s workshop has attracted 30 seasonal workers with a monthly salary of between VND VND500,000-600,000. She hoped that the province will continue to support for the building of facilities as well as for the promotion of trademarks to help local people seek stable markets

Presently, Ta Lai has 120 Ma ethnic minority families with 950 people and their brocade weaving skills have been passed from generation to generation.
