Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Pham Khoi Nguyen made an official decision yesterday to fine Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) maker VND127.53 billion (US$7.72 million) after the company violated multiple environmental protection laws.
This fine includes VND267.5 million for Vedan’s 12 violations of environmental protection laws, such as the discharge of waste water at 5-10 times the permitted volume, insufficient documentation, and poor management of toxic waste. The remainder of the fine is due to unpaid yearly environmental protection fees.
