(ĐN)- According to Xuan Loc district’s Office of Agriculture and Rural Development, total area under sweet potato cultivation (Japanese variety) in the district occupies 43 hectares, major areas being Xuan Hoa, Xuan Hung, Xuan Tam, Xuan Thanh and Xuan Truong villages. At present, farmers in the district are going to harvest 13 hectares of sweet potatoes.
Since early this year, the district’s People’s Committee has spent VND 34 million to purchase the variety which has been distributed to farmers for cultivation. In the coming time, this variety will be widely distributed to farmers in villages of Xuan Loc in order to implement the conversion of crop structure in agriculture in the district.
Sweet potato (Japanese variety) is a short duration crop within 4 months of its plantation and gives an average yield of 20 tons per hectare per crop. The price of the sale of sweet potato at the garden is VND 5,000 per kilo and selling price at the market is VND 9,000 per kilo.
