The southern province of Dong Nai expects to receive an estimated US$1.5 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) by year’s end, says Bo Ngoc Thu, director of the provincial Department of Planning and Investment.
The director went on to note that the province has already approved a combined $920 million in new investment and additional capital for existing projects, a total equivalent to 77 per cent of the province’s annual target.
Among the largest of the new projects are a $117 million ball-bearing factory, a $70 million automobile plant, and a $15 million trade centre and apartment complex.
In order to attract more capital, Dong Nai will continue to promote administrative reform and perfect its "one-door" policy, efforts which it hopes will create more favourable conditions for investors.
The province will also undertake a promotional campaign directed at potential investors, both foreign and domestic, and maintain its committment to improved human resource development.
In the coming years, Thu said,
The province seeks further development in a wide range of industrial sectors, including hi-tech, mechanics, electronics, new material production, composites, agriculture machinery, engines, spare parts and accessories for autos and motorbikes, packaging, medicine and projects friendly to the environment.
The province also encouraged investment in new infrastructure, the construction of hotels and other real estate units, textiles, apparrel accessories, as well as increased promotion for tourism.
Dong Nai is currently home to 846 valid foreign-invested projects with a combined registered capital of $9.93 billion.
Upgraded IZs
To date, enterprises have set aside over $244 million to upgrade the infrastructure of 23 industrial zones (IZs) in
The three IZs attracting the highest volume of investment were Nhon Trach 3 at $51.2 million, Amata Bien Hoa at $38 million, and Bien Hoa 2 at $18 million.
In order to effectively administer the provincial IZs, the Management Board has implemented a " one door shop" mechanism aimed at reducing the time it takes for enterprises to complete the required administrative procedures. It is the first province in the country to have integrated the ISO 9001:2000 quality management system and computerised network into its management.
