
The General Statistics Office reported that the consumer price index (CPI) of 10 major commodity groups in March fell by 0.22 percent compared to February.
The fall was due to the fact that after the Tet holiday, the demand for consumption and entertainment declined. Among major commodity groups, the culture, sports and entertainment group dropped 1.16 percent, followed by beverages and tobacco with a 0.72 percent drop.

The General Statistics Office reported that though the CPI in March fell, the overall figure still increased 3.02 percent in the whole first quarter. It was due to the increase in electricity, coal, cement prices and the impacts of bird flu that had driven up food prices.
