The Provincial Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs reported that Dong Nai province has created jobs for more than 69,000 laborers in the first nine months of 2006. Particularly, about 37,900 laborers are now working at foreign invested enterprises and non state enterprises and state-enterprises in Dong Nai. Additional, the province has also created on-the-spot jobs for 31,200 laborers through the province’s social - economic program while conducted co-operative recruitment programs to send workers abroad with the number of 105 people.

According to figures released by the Labor Management Department under Dong Nai Industrial Zones Authority (DIZA), enterprises in Dong Nai’s industrial zones need to recruit 10000-15000 people in the fourth quarter of 2006. Consequently, an enterprise is seeking to recruit a maximum of  approximately 1000 new people. At a minimum, a company is looking to employ between tens to hundreds of employees. Especially, companies that are operating in some fields such as textiles and garments, leather footwear, food processing and electronics … are in need of labor with major rate of manual workers and recruitment rate of graduates at 10-15%.

Deputy Manager of the Labor Management Department of DIZA Ngo Thanh Quang said that companies in Dong Nai province are seeking to recruit more labors in the remaining months of the year to achieve the years target in recruiting new employees and make preparation for implementing large orders from their clients in spring 2007. In fact, there is a drop in the number of recruitment of regular workers in Dong Nai’s companies and an increase in that of recruitment of seasonal workers in the coming Lunar New Year period. However, companies that are operating in such fields as leather footwear and food processing seem to fail to reach the year’s target in recruiting new people due to facing the lack of new and young workforce. In addition, many enterprises in Dong Nai province are encountering labor shortage, mainly due to workers having more employment alternatives, quitting jobs for higher salaries and more attractive polices elsewhere…

According to the figures provided by Personnel Department of a footwear company, there are several hundreds of workers of the company to quit their jobs but there are also several hundreds others to apply for jobs every week. This showed that the workers are ready to leave their current jobs for higher paying ones. Therefore, the companies need to increase allowances and social welfare for workers in order to keep them working in the long-term for the companies.
