According to information from Mr. Per Hansen, Director of Espersen Company, the Denmark-based Espersen Company has signed deals to import basa catfish from Vietnam after 3-day visit in Mekong River delta provinces. He also affirmed that the company would boost up trading of Vietnamese tra and basa catfish in the coming time. The Espersen Company is listed as one of the leading seafood processors and traders in Denmark with a chain of supermarkets throughout the European Union and the US.

Vietnam is receiving happy signals from signing the contract with Espersen Company. Accordingly, Vietnamese tra and basa catfish can conquer such fastidious markets as the US and EU.

It is said that Cargill Vietnam has positive role in arrangement of the visit of Espersen Company’s representatives to Vietnam. More importantly, it showed the company’s determination to further penetrate into Viet Nam fisheries sector.

Presently, Tilapia fish is being consumed strongly in the world market. Fishery experts forecast that Tilapia will become most important aquaculture crop in this century. General Director of Cargill Vietnam Scott Ainslie seems to be optimistic about the future of Vietnamese fishery industry. Today, the world produces more than 2.2 million tons of tilapia per year, of which China accounts for 43%, Vietnam only 4%. Vietnamese fishery has not yet invested much in technology, feeding techniques in aquaculture and breeding fish, however, the price of Vietnamese tilapia is really competitive at 0.9US$/kg.

In the next time, Vietnamese fishery industry will focus on raising the quality of breeding fish as well as increasing the volume of fish harvested. Therefore, Cargill Vietnam has invested to expand production and provide high quality products to domestic market. Besides, Cargill is willing to transfer technology and provide assistance for aquatic breeders aiming to contribute to development of Vietnamese fishery industry.

All attempts made by Cargill Vietnam including development of new aquatic feeds  such as Immunofeeds, organizing workshops and seminars about aquaculture, helping to promote relations and establish linkages between seafood traders around the world with Vietnamese aquatic product businesses…. confirm credibility and goodwill of the company. Thanks to such efforts, Cargill Vietnam is ready for WTO integration, which will boost fisheries sector and help Vietnamese enterprises enhance their competitive status in the world market.
