The European Union has allowed 38 more Vietnamese seafood enterprises to export their products to EU markets as from July 1, 2006, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP). These enterprises have met the EU requirements for food hygiene and safety.

The EU has applied a new inspection law for all 25 member countries to tighten the control of food hygiene and safety on imported seafood. In addition to regulations governing veterinary checks on the amount of anti-biotic residue, micro organisms and metals, the new law requires the application of a coding system and certificates of products of origin. Meanwhile, Vietnamese seafood imported to the US will be still inspected twice, firstly in Vietnam and again in the US.
