* Industry development and FDI attraction
During the past time, local government has taken full advantage of the vast potentials in Long Thanh district to promote industry development and encourage FDI to the district. This benefits the growth of economy and society in Long Thanh. According to data supplied by the district office of Economic Development, Long Thanh has now 107 limited liability companies, 11 share-holding companies, 169 private companies and 18 cooperatives operating in the district. These companies employed 15,000 labors. Presently, the district has licensed 78 FDI projects worth a total of more US$ 1 billion.
Long Thanh’s industry has entered a stage of rapid growth. This encourages more FDI pouring into the district. It also explores the changes that industrialization and modernization brought to Long Thanh. The rapid growth of the economy in the period 2001-2004 showed its overall real GDP of 11.66% a year on average. By 2004, capacities of industry, services and agriculture made up 59.7%, 22.54% and 17.76%. At the same time, the district contributed more 182 billion VND to the State Budget; the figure jumped 72.38% compared with year target. According to the new criteria approved by the Government, the district has only 1,400 poor households, made up 3.3% of the total households.

On the other hand, local government will be under great pressure because rapidly growing industries also bring numerous immigrant workers to the district. Besides, the district people will suffer health effects from air pollution due to fast growing industry. These are challenges facing the district authority.
* Long Thanh - new attractive destination for domestic and foreign investors
Long Thanh district is striving to hit its target 2020 of becoming urban type 3. Accordingly, its economic structure will change entirely according to capacities of service- industry-agriculture making up 40%, 38%, 22%. Long Thanh will focus on developing human resources and investing in infrastructure, particularly, in traffic system. The district will also improve local investment environment under “one door” model aiming to reduce complicated and troublesome procedures. This will enable investors to deploy their projects at the shortest time and facilitate their businesses. Besides, Long Thanh will make plans for promoting development of industry, trade and tourism. This is aimed at attracting more foreign investment to the district. Long Thanh makes good use of supports from the provincial leaders and domestic and foreign investors to become new urban area, social-culture-economic center of the region as well as a promising destination for investors at home and abroad for next 10-15 years.
