Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and the Finance Ministry have agreed to allow some Vietnamese enterprises to quote their shares on the Singaporean stock market pending improvements in legal framework.

Secretary General of the Vietnam Association of Financial Investors (VAFI), Nguyen Hoang Hai, in a letter to the Finance Ministry and the State Securities Commission (SSC) has called for a comprehensive overhaul of the legal framework governing local companies’ listing in foreign stock markets.

Mr Hai said that bringing some Vietnamese firms to the Singaporean stock market was among agreements between the two governments in June 2004, but the SSC has not produced necessary policies.

Some large enterprises, like the General Forwarding and Agency Corporation (Gemadept), the Vietnam Dairy Product Company (Vinamilk), and the Kinh Do Corporation are eager to list in Singapore, said Mr Hai, but await a means to start the process.

Overseas listing, he said, will help those firms to raise large sums of capital at low cost as well as gain experience from other countries and promote investment opportunities in Vietnam .
