At the meeting, the parties agreed to coordinate to obtain permits to implement the program for approximately 40 children with cleft lips and cleft palates, with the surgeries to be performed at Dong Nai Children's Hospital. A team of surgical experts from the United States (US) is expected to travel directly to Dong Nai in August 2027 to perform the humanitarian surgeries.
In addition to performing the surgeries, the US experts will collaborate on training and technology transfer for Dong Nai's medical staff, while providing medical equipment and sharing professional expertise to enhance the local healthcare sector's long-term treatment capacity.
Operation International is a US-based humanitarian organization founded in 1996. To date, the organization has 14 teams of experts and has conducted numerous medical campaigns in 29 countries across South America, Central America, Africa, and Asia. Its goal is to provide free medical services to underprivileged individuals, regardless of gender, culture, ethnicity, or religion. The organization also focuses on educating and training local medical personnel and improving hospital infrastructure through equipment donations.
In 2024, Operation International, Design Capital Asia and Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital successfully co-implemented the "Charity Smile Surgery" program, bringing complete smiles to many underprivileged children with cleft lips and cleft palates in Hue City.
