The unions have provided farmers with support in various areas, from adopting digital technologies to managing capital effectively. Through these efforts, numerous practical models implemented at the grassroots level have helped improve the quality of union activities and promote modern, sustainable agricultural development.
Innovating production methods
Based on the characteristics of agricultural production in each locality, FUs across the city have gradually renewed their operational methods, strengthened their focus on the grassroots level, and placed members' practical needs and interests at the center of their activities.
Gia Kiem Commune has a total natural area of nearly 8,200 hectares, including more than 7,100 hectares of agricultural land used to cultivate key crops such as rambutan, durian, avocado, pepper, and jackfruit. The commune's total agricultural output is estimated at approximately 65,000 tons annually, providing a solid foundation for developing commodity-oriented production and expanding markets for local agricultural products.
According to Lai Van Nguyen, Chairman of the Gia Kiem Commune FU, the union has focused on bringing members together and supporting them in adopting new production methods, establishing links to facilitate the sale of agricultural products and gradually applying digital technology to farming activities. A notable example is a pilot model that combines production linkages, product traceability, and e-commerce through electronic farm logbooks.
Huynh Thi Hang, Deputy Secretary of the Dong Nai City Party Committee and Chairwoman of the city's Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, called on the City FU to make major changes to its methods of operation and strengthen links between farmers and cooperatives, enterprises, scientists, processing facilities and distribution networks. She also urged the City FU to make science, technology, innovation and digital transformation direct driving forces behind agricultural development.
Similarly, Nguyen Ly Thanh Tam, Chairman of the An Loc Ward FU, said the ward has a high proportion of agricultural production, with numerous commodity-oriented production models and value chain linkages. This requires more effective efforts to mobilize and support union members. In recent times, the union has regularly focused on communication activities through digital platforms and assisted farmers in applying digital technologies to production. Digitalization has also been closely integrated with clean agricultural production models and targeted movements to maximize their effectiveness.
A typical example is the model for cultivating organic passion fruit in An Loc Ward, where information on planting, crop care, and harvesting is regularly updated on digital platforms. The model aims to facilitate the registration of growing area codes and the application of QR codes for product traceability. These efforts have enabled members to gain greater access to organic farming practices while improving product transparency.
Alongside renewing operational methods, providing financial support and effectively managing capital resources remain essential tasks in helping farmers maintain and expand production.
According to Nguyen Xuan Thoi, Chairman of the Dau Giay Ward FU, in the first nine months of 2026, the union managed 15 loan plans under the Farmers' Support Fund, totaling VND 7.6 billion and benefiting 106 member households. The funding provided these households with additional resources to invest in production and business activities and develop their household economies.
"Capital management must be carried out rigorously at every stage, from assessing demand, selecting borrowers, and developing plans to conduct post-disbursement inspections. More importantly, capital management must be closely linked with production support, scientific and technical knowledge transfer, and market connections to ensure sustainable development," said Thoi.
Supporting development
Cao Tien Sy, Member of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Dong Nai City FU, said that in the current period, FUs at all levels have worked to stabilize their organizational structures following restructuring, implement emulation movements, support farmers in economic development, accelerate digital transformation, manage capital resources, and improve members' well-being.
Progress towards many targets has been positive, while models supporting agricultural production have gradually demonstrated their effectiveness. Amid organizational restructuring, the City FU has identified consolidating its organizational structure, streamlining personnel, and improving the quality of grassroots activities as priority tasks. Emulation movements have continued to be implemented in conjunction with economic development, environmental protection, new-style rural development, civilized urban development, and social welfare programs. FU members have also actively participated in community activities, responding to the special 500-day-and-night emulation campaign themed “Unity – Discipline – Efficiency – Breakthrough, building a civilized and modern Dong Nai". Their participation has helped strengthen consensus and a sense of civic responsibility in local communities.
In agricultural production, the City FU has coordinated with relevant agencies to provide farmers with guidance on crop cultivation and livestock farming, proactive pest and disease prevention and control, and measures to respond to adverse weather conditions. The union has also stepped up the transfer of scientific and technical advances and expanded high-tech, organic, and circular agricultural production models. Priority has been given to establishing growing area codes, ensuring product traceability, developing One Commune One Product (OCOP) products, and strengthening the promotion and distribution of agricultural products, with the aim of increasing product value and market competitiveness.
The City Farmers' Support Fund has continued to implement lending projects funded by the 2026 state budget. Coordination with the Bank for Social Policies in administering entrusted loans to union members has also been stepped up, providing additional resources for production and business development.
Sy added that, in the coming period, the City FU would continue to strengthen its organizational structure, improve the quality of its activities at the grassroots level, and focus on supporting agricultural economic development among cooperatives, cooperative groups and agricultural enterprises, as well as replicating effective production models. The union would also strengthen its management of the Farmers' Support Fund at every stage, from loan appraisal and disbursement to post-loan inspections, ensuring that funds are used for their intended purposes and effectively. In particular, digital transformation must become part of daily operations and deliver measurable results.
With a spirit of innovation, a strong grassroots orientation and the effectiveness of its support for members as a key measure of its performance, the City FU continues to strengthen its role as a bridge connecting farmers with state agencies, scientists and markets. Through these efforts, it helps foster a community of dynamic, innovative farmers and promote sustainable agricultural development.
