Workers spread spirit of blood donation

Beyond serving as the core workforce in labor and production, workers in Dong Nai City are also helping spread humanitarian values through the voluntary blood donation movement.

Through close coordination among grassroots trade unions, enterprises, and Red Cross societies, the movement is attracting an increasing number of workers. As a result, voluntary blood donation has become a hallmark of corporate culture at many enterprises.

Actively participating in humanitarian blood donation

A humanitarian blood donation drive recently organized by the Dong Nai City Red Cross Society, in coordination with the Blood Transfusion Center of Cho Ray Hospital at Vedan Vietnam Enterprise Corp., Ltd., in Phuoc Thai Commune, attracted hundreds of staff members, workers, and employees. From early in the morning, many participants arrived to register, viewing blood donation as a meaningful activity that helps patients while promoting the spirit of compassion throughout the community.

Having donated blood voluntarily four times, Nguyen Quoc Huy, a worker at Vedan Vietnam Enterprise Corp., Ltd., said, "Each time I donate blood, it brings me joy because I am contributing to saving patients. It only takes about 15 minutes, but knowing that my blood can help a patient overcome a life-threatening situation is meaningful. Therefore, every year when the company organizes a blood drive, I register to participate. It is a meaningful act that I always maintain."

Another active blood donor who has participated in the company's blood donation drives for many consecutive years, Nguyen Thi Phuong Hong said she had once been concerned that donating blood might affect her health. However, after receiving comprehensive information and counseling on the benefits of blood donation and safe donation procedures, she confidently registered to take part. She said that what makes her happiest is knowing that her blood can help save many patients' lives. In addition to donating blood herself, Hong also encourages many of her colleagues to participate.

Le Van Sy, a worker at Pou Chen Vietnam Enterprise Ltd. in Bien Hoa Ward, who participated in blood donation for the first time, said, "For me, humanitarian blood donation is not just a charitable activity but also a way to help those in need."

Promoting humanitarian gestures

Over the years, grassroots trade unions in Dong Nai City have made voluntary blood donation a regular activity within emulation movements and social welfare activities. Rather than organizing blood drives only during peak periods, many enterprises have proactively coordinated with Red Cross societies and the health sector to develop regular blood donation plans, enabling union members and workers to participate without affecting production activities.

To further strengthen the movement, trade unions at all levels have intensified communication and counseling and addressed workers' health concerns before and after blood donation. As a result, awareness among union members and workers has steadily improved. Many who were once hesitant have become regular blood donors, helping to spread the spirit of humanitarianism within enterprises.

From factories and workshops, an increasing number of workers are actively participating in voluntary blood donation. In addition to their dedication to production, they are taking the lead in community-oriented activities, helping spread the spirit of compassion and foster a positive corporate culture.

At many enterprises, the sight of workers registering to donate blood after their shifts or joining colleagues at blood donation events has become familiar. For many, blood donation is not merely a routine activity but also a practical way to help save patients' lives.

Huynh Tan Loc, Member of the Executive Board of the Grassroots Trade Union at Vedan Vietnam Enterprise Corp., Ltd., said the company has consistently maintained humanitarian blood donation activities to foster a sense of responsibility toward the community. To date, the company has organized four blood donation drives, with the number of staff members and workers registering to participate increasing each year. This year alone, 250 people took part, and approximately 250 units of blood were collected to supplement the blood bank, helping meet emergency care and treatment needs and providing many patients with a chance at life.

Nguyen Tan Phap, Chairman of the Grassroots Trade Union of Pou Chen Vietnam Enterprise Ltd., said that the greatest value lies not only in the number of blood units collected but also in the widespread spirit of sharing among the workforce. Every worker who donates blood becomes an ambassador, encouraging colleagues and relatives to participate, thereby gradually building a culture of voluntary blood donation within the company.

Through the heartfelt contributions of workers, the voluntary blood donation movement in Dong Nai City continues to expand. Each unit of donated blood not only helps save patients' lives but also spreads the spirit of sharing and demonstrates workers' sense of responsibility toward the community.
