On June 23, the Government’s Steering Committee on science and technology development, innovation, digital transformation and Project 06 (referred to as the Steering Committee) held a hybrid thematic meeting on promoting the development of science, technology and innovation.

Politburo Member and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, Head of the Steering Committee, chaired the meeting. Also attending were Politburo Member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc, along with representatives of ministries, sectors and relevant agencies.
The meeting was held in person at the Government Headquarters and connected online with provinces and cities nationwide. Attending the meeting at the Dong Nai City venue were Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee (CPC) and Chairwoman of the City People’s Council Ton Ngoc Hanh; Deputy Secretary of the CPC and President of the City Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Huynh Thi Hang; members of the CPC’s Standing Board; leaders of the City People’s Committee; and representatives of relevant departments, sectors and units.

At the meeting, leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, the Steering Committee’s standing agency, reported on the implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW and presented the theme on promoting the development of science, technology and innovation, while proposing several key tasks for implementation in the coming period. Representatives of ministries, sectors and localities also presented reports, exchanged views and shared experiences in implementing science, technology and innovation initiatives in their respective sectors and localities, and proposed solutions to further promote the development of science, technology and innovation in the time ahead.

Recently, Dong Nai has focused on vigorously implementing related tasks and has achieved a number of important foundational results. Regarding the development space for science, technology and innovation, the city is accelerating the development of the Long Thanh Concentrated Digital Technology Zone and building the Innovation and Digital Transformation Center, gradually forming a local innovation ecosystem and creating a favorable environment for investment, research, development and technology commercialization.
The city has identified priority sectors associated with its development advantages, including the semiconductor industry, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics applications, smart logistics, smart manufacturing and supporting industries. Notably, Dong Nai has issued a Semiconductor Industry Development Plan to 2030, with a vision to 2050, to proactively capitalize on emerging development trends.

Addressing the meeting, Politburo Member and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung requested that members of the Steering Committee and relevant ministries and sectors focus on removing bottlenecks in mechanisms and policies hindering the development of science, technology and innovation. Ministries, sectors and localities were urged to review and identify major challenges in each sector and locality, concentrate resources on core and strategic technologies, and develop high-value-added products. Localities should identify key development issues that match their specific potential and strengths to formulate portfolios of strategic technology and innovation products that effectively serve local socio-economic development.
