On October 16, the district authorities also slapped a fine on Phan Thi Tram Co Ltd for the illegal construction on 13,380sq.m pig farm near the Tri An Reservoir.
Tran Nam Bien, deputy chairman of the district People’s Committee, said shortly after the discovery of these illegal facilities in June, authorities had ordered the company to stop construction until they get a licence.
The committee had also imposed a fine of VND40 million, he said.
The company had been given 60 days (from June 20) to get the licence, he said.
However, the company has yet acquired the licence as of October 16, the district authorities decided to dismantle the farm, he said.
The company has not even done a feasibility study to assess the impact the farm would have on the environment, he claimed.
Discharge of wastewater from the farm, which is located less than 300m from the Tri An Reservoir, will pollute the Dong Nai River, a source of water for people in Dong Nai Province and HCM City.
