Dong Nai is one of the hardest affected localities, with 56 percent of its area contaminated by AO/dioxin. In particular, Dong Nai’s Bien Hoa airport is the country’s second “hot spot” of dioxin, as it was the place where the US military stored herbicides.
The province is now home to over 13,147 AO/dioxin victims and they are suffering both physical and mental pains caused by dioxin, but only 4,727 of them are benefiting social welfare.
Over the past five years, Dong Nai raised VND36.5 billion to take care of local AO/dioxin victims, help them develop household economy and stabilize their lives, build charity houses, provide vocational training and award scholarships to the victims. However, further efforts should be made to address shortcomings in order to provide better support for AO victims in the coming time.
Speaking at the session, Deputy Head Nguyen Van Hung highly appreciated efforts made by Dong Nai in providing support for local victims.
