Police said the accident occurred at 11.30 a.m. at a railway crossing at milepost 1681 km + 200 in Tan Binh hamlet, Binh Minh commune. There are no barricades to warn drivers of an oncoming train when crossing.
Two of the three passengers in the truck including a 39 year-old female and a 11 year-old boy of Ho Chi Minh city and the driver, a 20 year-old male of Tay Ninh province, died at the scene. The third passenger, a 45 year-old male of Ho Chi Minh city was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
