(ĐN)- After five years of the implementation of poverty reduction program for the 2006-2010 period, Xuan Loc district has reported a drop in number of poor households from 12.76 percent in 2006 to 2.81 percent as of present day.

Over the past five years, around 6,545 households in the district have escaped poverty, reaching 163.62 percent of the set target; programmes for socio-economic development have been carried out effectively and have yielded achievements in a number of areas, meeting the demands of local residents. Presently, living conditions in the district’s poor mountainous communes have been improved, with a significant reduction in the number of poor households and marked progress in education and healthcare.
In the period of 2006-2010, the Xuan Loc provided preferential loans totaling VND60.4 billion for 4,250 poor households and more than 2,738 students with difficult circumstances, issued 93,600 free health insurance cards worth VND11.2 billion to poor people, offered jobs for 45,000 laborers and provided vocational training to 5,633 local people. The district also handed over 650 charitable houses to poor families in poor communes, invested approximately VND3.3 billion to build infrastructure projects including roads, bridges, irrigational facilities, schools, medical centres and electricity supply networks.
In implementation of the Government’s Programme 134, Xuan Loc built 391 new houses for minority ethnic people, provided residential land, land for production and fresh water to poor households.
In the 2010-2015 period, Xuan Loc district will continue its efforts to build the plan for sustainable poverty alleviation programme, gradually narrow the gap between the rich and the poor in the locality. Particularly, the district will provide further supports for local poor households, speed up the implementation of poverty reduction work in the coming time, offer preferential loans to poor households for production development, step up the development of farm economy, organize short-term vocational training courses.
