Thong Nhat is now home to 15 minority ethnic groups with 7,434 people whose main source of income is from agriculture. Accordingly, policies towards ethnic groups have actively contributed to improving ethnic groups’ living conditions, strengthening national great unity and maintaining political security and social order.
In the last four years, 145 poor ethnic households in Thong Nhat district were provided with new houses thanks to the government’s programme 134. Besides, the district gave land for housing to 10 others, provided vocational training and created jobs for local people.
Billions of dong were also spent to construct traffic projects, water and electricity projects in specially difficult communes in the locality.
From 2004 until now, the district spent approximately VND7 billion to upgrade and build more than 157km of rural roads, 3 bridges and 12 transformer station; invested nearly VND10 billion for two concentrated water supply systems in Hung Loc and Xuan Thien communes, hundreds of wastewater treatment projects and sanitary toilets.
