(ĐN)- Around VND1.5 bil has been raised for the province’s Fund for the Poor at the ceremony to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the Vietnam United National Front which was held by Dong Nai Fatherland Front Committee on Tuesday. The money will be used to build additional 100 charitable houses for poor households across the province.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Front Nguyen Ngoc Duc said the province’s Fund for the Poor has always received enthusiastic support from organizations, businesses and individuals over the past ten years. He expressed his trust that Vietnamese people’s spirit of mutual assistance in difficulty will continue to be heightened in future.
This year, although facing difficulties due to the impacts of the global economic recession, Dong Nai-based enterprises still actively participated in the province’s socio-charitable activities. Particularly, Dong Nai Lottery Co. donated VND200 million; Dong Nai Food Industry Corporation (Donataba), VND150 million; Dong Nai Young Entrepreneurs’ Association, VND150 mil; Dong Nai Rubber Co. (Donaruco), Dong Tien Garment Co. (Dovitec), France-Vietnam Animal Feed J.S Co. (Proconco), VND100 mil each. The “Day for the Poor“ campaign launched on Oct. 17 has raised more than VND7.8 bil to build 427 charitable houses and repair 57 others. So far, 11/11 districts and city in Dong Nai have completed a programme to eliminate dilapidated houses of the poor. This is the results of nine years of implementing the campaign “the Day for the Poor” launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
From the beginning of the year until now, the provincial Fatherland Front Committee and its grassroots units received over VND450 mil to help poor households to develop family-based production, organized 25 training courses on agricultural techniques to farmers, awarded 245 scholarships and 95 bicycles worth a total of more than VND100 mil to students with difficult circumstances, presented gifts and offered free medical check-ups and medicine worth over VND700 mil to poor people across the province.
The front and its agencies at all levels also mobilized VND375 mil and 1,020 work days from local people to build and upgrade more than 60 km of rural traffic road, dredged 12,000 km of canals.
To mark 79th anniversary of the Vietnam United National Front, Xuan Loc district cooperated with Dong Nai Police to build 20 charity houses at a total cost of VND400 mil for local poor households; the district also gave 30 bicycles, 200 helmets, 150 gifts to poor students, provided free health check-ups and medicine to over 1,000 single elderly people.
In the coming time, the front will continue to make further efforts to reduce the number of poor households in the province. Dong Nai is now home to more than 42,800 poor households (according to the new poverty standards).
