In Vinh Cuu district, a total of VND3 billion has been raised to build 206 houses for the poor in this period.
In the Jan-Sept period, the provincial fronts Day for the Poor campaign has mobilised more than VND13 billion. With the money, fronts have helped build 760 houses for the poor and repair 33 others. Until now, 9 out of 11 districts, townships and city in the province have been now recognised as having finished the make-shift house eradication programme.
Besides, the fatherland fronts at all levels awarded 5,824 scholarships worth over VND2 billion to studious poor students across the province; visited and presented gifts to policy families, the poor, minority ethnic people, elders and soldiers. The fronts also cooperated with hospitals to provide free eye surgeries, heart operations, check-ups and medicine to poor people. Total cost of the activities was VND30 billion.
Lately, the provincial Front granted 130 scholarships valued at VND65 million and 15 bicycles to poor students in specially difficult communes, donated 42 computers to schools in Cam My, Xuan Loc, Vinh Cuu, Dinh Quan, Tan Phu districts.
To help poor households, with their own efforts, get out of poverty in a sustainable manner, some enterprises donated breeding pigs and feed, supply them with breeding techniques to increase income for their families.
The Day for the Poor campaign has received strong support from the people and the business community; however, Dong Nai now has some 42,871 poor households according to new standards, making up 8.59 percent. Therefore, the Front will continue to call on organizations and individuals to make donations to help the poor, contribute to reduce the rate of poor households under the new standards down to 6.89 percent at the end of the year, said Chairwoman of the provincial Font Nguyen Thi Kim Lien.
