Two elephants found dead in Dong Nai

Forest rangers in southern Dong Nai Province’s Vinh Cuu Nature Reserve, who were searching for a pair of wild elephants for several weeks after they were no longer spotted near villages, found their decaying bodies on June 15.

The two female elephants, both aged just more than a year and without tusks, are thought to have been attacked and killed two months ago, Cao Hien Quang, Phu Ly Commune’s deputy chairman, said.

The head of one of them was missing while their feet had been cut off but not taken away, and were lying nearby.

The animals’ carcasses have been sent for further examination to find out the cause of death.
