Series of significant activities to mark 310th anniversary of Bien Hoa-Dong Nai region

(ĐN)- A bronze statue of General Nguyen Tri Phuong was unveiled on December 26 at the temple dedicated to him in Buu Hoa ward, Bien Hoa city. Huynh Thi Nga, Vice Chairwoman of the Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee and Duong Trung Quoc, Secretary General of the Vietnam Historical Science Association were present at the unveiling ceremony.

The statue was created by the Vietnam Historical Science Association with cash raised by the Provincial Study Encouragement Society and Truong Hai Auto company.

Earlier, a ceremony was held at Dong Nai Museum by the Provincial Steering Board for Organization of Important Anniversaries to announce a series of writings celebrating 310th anniversary of Bien Hoa-Dong Nai region and introduce a set of books “Huynh Van Nghe- Author and Works”. Huynh Van Nghe is a revolutionary officer and poet who lived during the French and American wars.

For the first time, Huynh Van Nghe scholarships included 45 scholarships worth each VND 500,000 given to students from 3 schools bearing his name including one in Binh Duong province and two in Dong Nai province and Luong The Vinh high school in Dong Nai. The funds for this scholarship were raised by the family of Huynh Van Nghe.

The provincial Culture and Information Centre has held a ceremony to announce winners of the 2008 writing competition. The goal of this competition was to encourage the creation of quality propaganda content for traveling lecturers. The competition was open for both professional and amateur writers inside and outside the province. The topics of the competition concentrate on various aspects of daily life. Especially, entrants were encouraged to write on prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and the fight against crime, traffic safety, family planning and birth control, building a cultured lifestyle in residential areas, the fight against negative phenomena, the campaign to study and follow President Ho Chi Minh’s example and the history of establishment and development of Bien Hoa and Dong Nai. The writing will be used to present through oral, poster, and performance presentations. The competition has attracted 20 entries from Dong Nai, Lam Dong and Binh Duong provinces. Eight prizes were presented in total, including one first prize, two second prizes, two third prizes and three consolation prizes. In which, the writing entited “Huong buoi” (Pomelo flavour) made by Thuy Tu from Bien Hoa city won the first prize.
