The Day for the Poor campaign was launched in Dong Nai in 2000 and the campaign has received strong support from people across the province. Over the past eight years, the Fund for the Poor in Dong Nai raised VND 39 billion, some of which has been spent on building 474 houses for martyrs and war invalids’ families and poor families, 1105 houses for ethnic families as well as repairing 636 houses for poor households province wide.

By now, 128 communes, 5 districts and Long Khanh townlet in Dong Nai province have completed replacing makeshift, dilapidated houses of poor households.
For the households which were poor due to lack of production means and capital, the provincial authorities have managed to mobilise individuals in the support of the poor through lending them sufficient capital to stabilize their production and get out of their poverty by themselves. There are 4,002 self-management groups in reducing poverty and credit groups that have been set up in the province. The provincial Fatherland Front Committee in coordination with relevant agencies have provided agricultural production training for 45,000 poor households. Besides, the province has provided preferential loans worth around VND 83 billion to 28,531 poor households.
The provincial Fatherland Front Committee has also raised VND 507 million to present 1,250 gifts for poor students. In addition, VND 1.8 billion were contributed to build 9 kindergartens in 9 districts and more than VND 1.3 billion raised to build infrastructure for minority ethnic people residing in Xuan Hung village. The province has also provided free health insurance cards worth almost VND 11 billion for 265,174 poor people.
