(ĐN)- On September 16, the Society and Culture Committee under Dong Nai province’s People’s Council had a working session with Tan Phu district’s leaders on the implementation of poverty reduction program for the 2006-2010 period.

The percentage of poor households in the Dinh Quan district has decreased in the past two years after some 2,500 households escaped poverty. However, there are still more than 5,400 poor households in the district presently, accounting for 16.07 percent, the highest rate of poor households in the province.

Speaking at the working session, Head of the Society and Culture Committee highly appreciated the district’s efforts to escape poverty over the past years. He stressed that it’s necessary to provide further supports for local poor households and speed up the implementation of poverty reduction work in the coming time. Accordingly, the district needs to focus on offering preferential loans to poor households for production development, providing basic knowledge on breeding and cultivation for farmers, organizing short-term vocational training courses, etc. He also hoped that Dinh Quan will try its best to reduce poor household rate to 1% by the end of 2010.
