Kind heated people from half a globe away

Nguyen Ngoc Phu, Vietnamese American man in Washington D.C told that he was touched when reading the article in Dong Nai Newspaper online about a poor student named Nguyen Chi Bao lving in Ma Da village, Vinh Cuu district, Dong Nai province. Phu told his farmily and friends about the poor boy who hitchhiked to school every day because he had no bicycle, but in spite of living in difficult circumstances, he has studied hard. Hence, Phu mobilised donations to help poor students in Dong Nai province.

Generous donations have been received from kind hearted overseas Vietnamese such as Michael Phong, Jimmy Cuong, Linh Yen, Anh Chi, … In addition, children of overseas Vietnamese worked voluntarily in part-time jobs in order to earn money for the benefit of poor students in Dong Nai. Accordingly, their efforts boosted the funds raised.

Poor students are happy when they receive donated bicycles

Initially, the fundraisers planned to offer 100 bicycles to poor students in Dong Nai province. However, the fundraising received strong support from overseas Vietnamese in the US. Particularly, Mr. Don and Ms. Trang donated $500 to the fund. The Dong Nai Newspaper was really happy with news of the funding. The number of bicycles that will be donated in 2008 increases from 100 to 180. Besides, the fund would support construction of houses for the poor in the province, each house worth VND 12 million. Overseas Vietnamese in the US has made donations through the US Global Community Service Foundation (GCSF) totaling $15,500 to be used in charitable activities of Dong Nai Newspaper in this summer.

Poor students in Dong Nai get bicycles

The donations from overseas Vietnamese in the US have assisted needy children in their dream of owning a new bicycle. Their donations went to benefit orphans in the Bien Hoa Centre for Orphans, poor students in Cam My district. The donations also helped to build new home for three poor families in Cam My district’s Nhan Nghia village.    
 
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phu said that the trip returning to Vietnam aims to help children, who were born and grew up in the US, understand the culture of their native country, have a chance to meet relatives, and serve community. He added that with a bicycle, Vietnamese children are able to do many things for themselves and their families, they can go to school easier as well as find suitable work to earn money to support their families.
