Hoang Minh Chau scholarships help poor students nurture hopes for the future

The Hoang Minh Chau Scholarship Program was launched in 2004 by Dong Nai Newspaper. During the past eight years, the program has promoted the vales benefiting the poor students who are the children of Party members. Our work has already had a profound impact on the community.

Poor students receive Hoang Minh Chau Scholarship

* More kind hearts and more helpful hands join with us

The scholarship fund named in honor of the first Secretary of the Party Cell, the scholarship program aims at outstanding poor students who are children of party members. Hoang Minh Chau scholarship program along with “Overcoming the present difficulties for brilliant future" scholarship program are a part of Dong Nai Newspaper’s charitable and social activities which have become known as traditional activities every year. In recent years, the Hoang Minh Chau Scholarship program has extended its assistance to outstanding poor students who are children of civil servants and policy beneficiaries in order to adapt to real demands. Deputy- Editor-In- Chief Do Trung Tien said that the scholarship program aims to motivate poor students’ efforts in studying.

From the start, the program has always gotten excellent support from local businesses and organizations. Funding for the first year of the program has come mainly from Bien Hoa Construction and Material Building Company (BBCC) with donations worth VND 5 million for awarding 5 scholarships for poor students with each valued at VND 1 million. After that, there were 20 recipients of the scholarship in the second year of the program with donations from BBCC and Dong Tien Garment Company. Every year the numbers of scholarship recipients are increasing while at the same time more kind hearts and more helpful hands join with us including Dong Nai Tobacco Company, Dong Nai Water Supply Company ….

Many innovative ideas of raising money have been implemented. Particularly, a China ceramic vase was sold at auction to raise Dong Nai Newspaper’s charity fund. This idea was developed by the Vietnam Architects’ Association. The event left an impression on the public. The Association raised VND 45 million from an auction of a green glazed ceramic vase with signatures of nearly 100 architects of the Executive Board of the Association. All the money raised from this auction went to benefit the Hoang Minh Chau scholarship program of Dong Nai Newspaper. Accordingly, the Hoang Minh Chau Scholarship program offered 50 scholarships for outstanding poor students last year. The Hoang Minh Chau Scholarship program which is now in its eighth year and has so far awarded scholarships to hundreds of poor students throughout the province, helping them overcome difficulties to pursue their dreams.

* Giving strength for poor students to overcome difficulties

The number of scholarship recipients in 2007-2008 school year hit the record of 115. This year, the main sponsor of the Hoang Minh Chau scholarship program is Cuong Thuan Investment and Development Join Stock Company (IDICO). Truong Van Nhi, principal of Song Ray junior secondary school in Cam My district said that the Hoang Minh Chau scholarship program brings opportunities to poor students, helping them overcome difficulties to continue their study.

The Editorial Board of Dong Nai Newspaper is still looking for more helpful hands in order to extend assistance to the needy students in Dong Nai province.
