Minimum wage increases January 1

The nation’s minimum wage was adjusted to VND540,000 per month for the lowest skilled job, pursuant to Government Decree No 166/2007/ND-CP, issued on November 14, stipulating the minimum wage applicable to domestic economic and socio-political organisations. The new minimum wage takes effect on January 1, 2008.

The Government also issued Decree No 167/2007/ND-CP on the same day setting a minimum wage of VND620,000 per month for enterprises in the inner districts of Ha Noi and HCM City, and of VND580,000 per month in suburban districts of Ha Noi and HCM City, inner districts of Hai Phong, Ha Long and Bien Hoa cities and a number of districts of Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces. The VND540,000 minimum wage would apply in all other areas.

 

Decree No168/2007/ND-CP sets an even higher minimum wage for Vietnamese workers in foreign-invested enterprises and foreign and international organisations, as well as for foreigners working in Viet Nam. A minimum wage of VND1,000,000 per month will be applicable to enterprises located in the inner districts of Ha Noi and HCM City, and VND900,000 per month will apply in suburban districts of Ha Noi and HCM City, inner districts of Hai Phong, Ha Long and Bien Hoa cities and a number of districts of Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces. Workers employed by foreign enterprises and organisations in other areas will be entitled to VND800,000 per month.
