The
Central Highlands province of Dak Nong has invested to the tune of over 60 billion VND to better protect the buffer zone of the South Cat Tien National Park.
The project has focused on measures to raise public awareness about biodiversity and improve the living conditions of nearly 10,000 people living around the 40,000 ha buffer zone in a move to prevent the park from being destroyed for farming land.
The Cat Tien National Parks Endangered Wild Animal Rescue Centre has annually received and treated hundreds of animals, including bears, monkeys, wildcats and reptiles. The centre recently saved 17 injured bears and later released them to the jungle.
The Cat Tien National Park was recognised as a world biosphere reserve by the United Nations Educations, Scientific and Educational Organisation (UNESCO). Documents will be submitted to the organisation to recognise the park as a world natural heritage site.
The park covers parts of southern Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc provinces and the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.
