The meeting took place in Dong Nai province on July 23 to mark the 60th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27).

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Vo Van Mot affirmed that the Provincial Party and people of Dong Nai always remember and respect the great sacrifices made by heroes, martyrs and those who had contributed to the revolution. During the past years, the Party and people of the province have long worked out many priority policies in favour of war invalids, martyrs’ families and revolutionary contributors. The local authorities has encouraged the expansion of the “Gratitude showing” movement in the whole province so as to collect assistance, responsibility and sentiments to improve the spiritual and material conditions for war invalids and martyrs’ families. The practical activities have been launched such as caring for Heroic Mothers, weak and lonely parents of martyrs, providing vocational training and jobs for children of martyrs and invalids, helping seriously wounded invalids at home and in the community, building or repairing houses and setting up “Gratitude showing” funds. The life of those people has changed positively since the implementation of the Ordinance on Supporting Priority Policy Beneficiaries.

According to report from Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, during the past 11 years, the local people contributed over VND45 billion for the fund of “Paying debts of gratitude” to build gratitude houses, offer saving books, take care of heroic mothers and help policy families. Besides, the province spent tens of billion of dong to upgrade martyrs’ cemeteries. In the past years, more than 16,000 sets of remains of martyrs were found and buried at the province’s cemetery.

Until now, the movement on improving living standards for priority policy beneficiaries saw encouraging results as 172 communes and precincts have been recognised as models in the war martyrs and invalids work.
On this occasion, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the provincial People’s Committee awarded certificates of merit to Long Thanh Golf Club, 33 collectives and 171 individuals for their contributions to the activities of “paying debts of gratitude” in the past time.
