Dong Nai Buddhist sect holds congress

More than 500 Buddhist dignitaries, monks and nuns, who represent more than 3,500 Buddhist monks and nuns in southern Dong Nai province, flocked to the their provinces 6th congress, being held from May 6-7.

More than 500 Buddhist dignitaries, monks and nuns, who represent more than 3,500 Buddhist monks and nuns in southern Dong Nai province, flocked to the their provinces 6th congress, being held from May 6-7. Attending the congress were Mrs.Bui Ngoc Thanh, Head of the Mass Mobilisation Department of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee, and Most Venerable Thich Hien Phap, Deputy Chairman and General Secretary of the Vietnam’s Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Council.
 

At the congress, Superior Buddhist Monk Thich Minh Chanh elected as head of the executive board of the Dong Nai Buddhist Church for the 2007-2012 period.

 

Over the past five years, believers in Dong Nai have continued to preach for the strengthening of the individual spirit and for people to commit good deeds that benefit the religion and the nation.

 

The temple is active in humanitarian work within the province and raises over 31 billion VND a year in order to aid the disadvantaged and victims of natural disasters.

 

At the same day, a delegation from the executive board of the Dong Nai Buddhist Church paid a courtesy visit to the provinces leaders. Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Tran Dinh Thanh received the delegation.
