*** Nearly 1,500 students from 85 primary and junior high schools across Bien Hoa city attended the launching ceremony of the summer activities program 2011 at the province’s Conference Centre on May 5. The event also included activities to mark World Environment Day. The ceremony was co-hosted by the Bien Hoa sterring committee for summer activities and Council of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers’ Brigade (HYPB) Bien Hoa.

The summer activities in Bien Hoa city will focus on strengthening education and propaganda activities to raise awareness on environmental protection, energy saving and keeping streets clean and green.

*** On the same day, Council of the HYPB Bien Hoa held a ceremony to honor 52 outstanding people who are in charge of the Young Pioneer organisations of schools in the city. Also at the ceremony, 229 students were awarded the valiant tittle at the municipal level in recognition of their outstanding contributions in doing small plans.

*** In Xuan Loc district, a meeting to mark World Environment Day was held on the same day. The event attracted the participation of more than 500 officials, youth union members and local residents in the district.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of the district’s People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Cat Tien called on local residents to  actively participate in environmental protection activities, forest fire prevention and control, the fight against deforestation and protecting wildlife resources. She also asked functional agencies to strengthen inspections and deal strictly with violations that negatively affect the environment.

As known, Xuan Loc district has more than 10,000 ha of forest. The district plans to grow an additional 150ha of trees in Chua Chan mountain this year.
