Dong Nai to focus on protection of environment in key areas

The province should take measures to protect the water environment of the Dong Nai River Basin and to cope with climate change, he noted.

Thinh said, adding that top priority should be given to projects that are environmentally friendly, have low fuel consumption, and use a low proportion of cheap labour.

The number of urban areas which have drainage systems and wastewater treatment facilities accounts for 40 per cent of the total in the province while the number of industrial zones having consolidated wastewater-treatment facilities makes up 90.5 per cent; 98 percent of urban households and 90 per cent of rural households in the province have access to clean and hygienic water, the Provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment reported.

On this occasion, local businesses donated over VND 2.2 billion for the Environmental Protection Fund. At the conference, the Provincial People’s Committee awarded certificates of merit to individuals and collectives for their outstanding achievements in environmental protection in 2010.
