(ĐN)- Dong Nai saw a dramatic decrease of traffic accidents but a rise of the death toll in road accidents in the first quarter of this year. According to the statistics from the Dong Nai Traffic Police Department, 259 traffic accidents have occurred in the province over a 3-month period, killing 104 people and injuring more than 344 others, showing an increase of nearly 12 per cent in the number of deaths, a decrease of nearly 30 and 12 percent in the number of accidents and injuries, respectively when compared to the same period last year.
Traffic accidents in province were mostly caused by carelessness and poor awareness on the part of drivers. 18 per cent of road accidents were caused by car drivers, while over 73 per cent were by motorbike riders.
During January and March this year, the province saw 5 railway accidents, killing 7 people.
The highest rates of traffic accidents were found in the four districts of Cam My, Xuan Loc, Dinh Quan, Nhon Trach and Long Khanh town.
