The Vietnam Innovation Day 2011 themed “Innovation for Social Equity and Sustainable Growth” identifies and provides seed-funding for small and innovative development proposals to bring benefits to the poor and under-served communities. The ultimate aim is to bridge economic and social disparities and contribute to
The program consists of an open innovation competition that awards start-up funds for implementation to enterprises or organizations who propose the most innovative ideas addressing development issues within this year’s theme. The program will also create a forum for knowledge exchange and open discussions on “Innovation for Social Equity and Sustainable Growth”.
In addition, the program this year is seeking innovations in acquiring, adopting, creating and using new technologies, new processes and products that reduce wastage of resources and are affordable for the poor and underserved communities.
The award size for this year’s program increases to a maximum VND600 million per award for implementation, doubling the maximum number in the previous year. At least 10 prizes are expected to be awarded.

The Vietnam Innovation Day, which was first organized in 2003, is an annual program co-organized by the World Bank and government counterparts in partnership with many multilateral and bilateral donors and business entities. Its co-sponsors to date are Australian Agency for International Development, the Department for International Development (U.K.), the Embassy of Denmark, the Embassy of Finland, and the U.S. Agency for International Development.
