December has been chosen as the National action month for population, according to the Prime Ministers Decision No.2161/QĐ-TTg.The action month for population will be held annually. It aims to raise public awareness of the importance of population control and taking responsibility for family planning to ensure the heath and happiness of every individual and family, as well as the nations sustainable development. The action month also provides a chance to strengthen co-ordination between domestic and international organisations, agencies and people from all walks of life involved in population and family planning works in
In response to the Action Month, the Dong Nai Department of Health has urged agencies and localities to step up information campaigns to control the increase in population, especially the gender imbalance at birth.
Despite recording some positive results over the past years, population and family planning work in Dong Nai still faces many difficulties and challenges, including a large population and an unsustainable growth in births at remote areas; gender imbalance is also one of biggest challenge for provincial authorities, according to the Dong Nai Department of Health.
