(ĐN) – A seminar on intensifying the propaganda for environment protection of the basin system of Dong Nai River was held in Binh Duong province on November 30. The event attracted the participation of representatives from twelve provinces and cities which share the resources of the river basin.

The Dong Nai River Basin occupies an area of 37400 square kilometres with an annual flow of 37 billion cubic meters. Every day the river basin takes more than 4.5 million cubic meters of waste water, of which, over 1.8 million cubic meters are generated from industrial source mainly in Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Ba Ria- Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh city and 2.7 million cubic meters generated from domestic source.
The pollution of the Dong Nai River has become an urgent matter as the river water has been rapidly worsening. General Department of Environment under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) asked Ho Chi Minh city and eleven other southern provinces to take measures to encourage wastewater treatment before releasing into the river. The Department also urged related provinces and Ho Chi Minh city to enhance communication and education activities to raise the public’s awareness of environmental protection.
