(ĐN) - The ninth Party Committee Congress for the 2010-2015 tenure in Dong Nai province was officially kicked off on September 23 in the presence of Ho Duc Viet, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission . The congress takes place from Sept. 23 till Sept. 25.
About 349 delegates representing more than 45,400 Party members in the province attended this three-day congress.
In his opening speech, Secretary of the Dong Nai provincial Party Committe, Tran Dinh Thanh, stated that despite challenges from the global financial crisis, Dong Nai province has made great efforts to attain considerable socio-economic achievements, improve the living standard of local people and maintain political security, social order and safety in the last tenure.
Speaking at the congress, Secretary of the Party Central Committee Ho Duc Viet praised Dong Nai’s remarkable achievements during the past five years. He also stressed that Dong Nai still faces many difficulties, adding that the province’s industrial sector has showed some of its weaknesses due to its low added value growth and weaknesses still remain in the application of advanced technologies to agricultural production and environmental protection. Infrastructure and human resources have not yet met the recent requirements.
Mr. Viet asked the provincial Party Committee Congress to define its potential, strengths and weaknesses to put forward practical and feasible measures to achieve its targets in the next tenure.
He also urged Dong Nai to maintain sustainable economic growth, reduce the poverty rate, combat crime and corruption, improve healthcare services, ensure social welfare and encourage officials and the public to study and follow President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example.
