
(ĐN)- A delegation from the National Assembly’s Council of Ethnic Minorities, led by its Vice Chairman Ma Dien Cu paid a working visit to Tan Phu district, Dong Nai province on May 6.

The living standards of ethnic minority people in Tan Phu district has been improved considerably thanks to special care from the district authorities. As a result, the number of poor families among ethnic minority groups in the district has dropped remarkably, from 56.3 per cent in 2003 to 43.44 per cent this year, representing 1.14 per cent of the total poor households in Tan Phu district.
With capital provided by Program 134, 135 and the local budget, the district has provided cultivation land for the K’ho ethnic group as well as provided housing for ethnic minority groups in communes of Phu An and Phu Trung.
Vice Chairman Ma Dien Cu applauded efforts of the authorities of Tan Phu district in particular and Dong Nai in general in raising the living conditions of ethnic minority people. He also asked local authorities to make more efforts in providing vocational training and creating jobs for ethnic minority people in the area.
* Earlier, the NA’s ethnic minorities council delegation had paid a visit to Trang Bom district to learn about the situation of vocational training for young ethnic minority people in the district. According to report from the district’s vocational training center, between 4,000 people and 5,000 people are provided with vocational training every year, almost 30 per cent of whom are young ethnic minority people. In 2008, the district’s vocational training center in coordination with the province’s boarding school for ethnic minorities students provided short-term vocational training to 257 students of ethnic minority groups in the district.
