(ĐN)- Dong Nai Committee for Population, Family and Children has just held a meeting to celebrate its 5th founding anniversary and set tasks for 2007. Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Ao Van Thinh said at the meeting that the provincial Committee for Population, Family and Children should make more efforts to improve the effectiveness of birth-control and family planning program, contribute to improving the quality of people’s life and ensuring the child-bearing rate at the stable replacement level, prevent family violence as well as the trade in women and children, etc.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairwoman of Dong Nai Province’s Committee for Population, Family and Children Le Tran Thien Ly said that the Committee has overcome many difficulties and achieved major successes in the past five years. It made strong efforts to reduce the population growth rate from 1.45% in 2001 to 1.23% in 2006. The Committee has also strived to decrease the rate of third-child births to 9% from 12.96% and increase the percentage and number of modern contraceptive method users. Moreover, it has established 58 family clubs with more than 2000 members, paid attention to protect, care for and provie education to children.
At the meeting, the provincial Committee for Population, Family and Children has launched emulation movements to successfully implement tasks set for 2007. On this occasion, Vietnam Committee for Population, Family and Children and the provincial People’s Committee awarded certificates of merits and emulation flags to some individuals and collectives.
