No hen or duck eggs containing toxic Sudan colourant, responsible for causing cancer to humans, have been discovered in Viet Nam, said an official in charge for food safety.

According to Nguyen Thanh Phong, Vice Head of the Department for Food Hygiene and Safety made the affirmation in an interview with Viet Nam News Agency on Jan. 22.

 

An interdisciplinary mission organised by the Veterinary Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development made investigation at several wholesale markets and markets near and at border gates but has not found any eggs with the carcinogenic chemical, he said.

 

This initiative was taken right after there were rumours about a number of hen and duck eggs originating from China containing carcinogenic dye. Sudan Red IV, which is believed to be added ito animals food to give the yolks a more intense red colour.
