(ĐN) – Yesterday afternoon, January 9, an inauguration ceremony featuring a pair of giant Banh Tet (cylindrical glutinous rice cake filled with green bean paste and pork) was held at Tran Bien Temple of Culture to celebrate New Year as a prelude for the coming Lunar New Year. Also present at the ceremony was Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Le Hong Phuong.
The pair of giant Banh Tet made by Dam Sen Park in HCM city creates a new entry in Vietnam Guinness Book of Records for their great weight and heaviness. Banh Tet is indispensable food in families in the South during the Lunar New Year. To make these giant cakes, up to 750 kg of glutinous rice, 100 kg of green beans, 70 kg of pork and 400 kg of banana leaves were used.
About 20 people have been mobilized to make the cakes with diameters of 0.8 metre and lengths of 3.5 metres. The total weight of each cake is about two tonnes.
