Swedish Minister for Justice Thomas Bodstrom will pay his first official visit to Vietnam January 7-11.

In Hanoi he is scheduled to discuss human rights, cooperation against corruption, and other issues with his hosts.

The implementation of an agreement for child adoption will also be discussed.

The minister will visit the UNICEF Vietnam office, the police, the Bar Association, a legal assistance center for women, and the Vietnam office of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

After wrapping up the Vietnam leg of his trip, he will fly to neighboring Cambodia for a three-day visit.

The Swedish government recently donated some $800,000 to help Vietnam with the third phase of its legal and judicial reform project.

Another Scandinavian country Denmark has agreed to provide $6.5 million for the four-year phase which is estimated to cost $7.3 million.

It aims to improve legal access for people by strengthening the rule of law, scaling up the efficiency of state administration, accelerating the process of democratization, and securing the legal rights and interests of the people.

It will also help to improve the capacity and efficiency of the National Assembly Office, Peoples Supreme Court, Peoples Supreme Procuracy – the prosecutor’s office – and the Bar Association under the Justice Ministry.
