(ĐN)- Directive No.23/2005/CT-TTg on boosting solid waste management at cities and industrial parks (IPs) has just issued by Prime Minister.

(ĐN)- Directive No.23/2005/CT-TTg on boosting solid waste management at cities and IPs has just issued by Prime Minister. The Directive is an important document to surmount weakness and shortcomings in the existing solid waste management due to only 70% of the solid waste source being collected. A harmful waste has not yet separated from other waste sources at many cities and IPs, even household and industrial waste was buried at the same place. Most of cities and IPs have not yet built solid waste treatment plants. The unhygienic treatment of solid waste affected badly people’s health. The limited awareness of the management agencies, the enterprises and the people were also the cause of the above situations. Other reason was that an offence of some enterprises and individuals was not punished strictly by appropriate authorities. From the above causes, PM directed specifically the implementation of the Directive for Ministries, departments, the Peoples’ Committee in level of city and province, Ministry of Building (MB), Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and others. MB was entrusted with responsibility of controlling, monitoring and making a periodic report about the Directive implementation.
