As a key growth pole of the Southern Key Economic Region, Dong Nai not only focuses on economic development but also consistently places people at the center of its development process. Within this framework, healthcare plays a pivotal role as one of the pillars in ensuring social welfare, directly contributing to improving residents’ quality of life.
The reality of recent years shows that, along with economic growth, Dong Nai's healthcare system has made clear progress toward specialization and modernization. First, the city has focused on developing a network of specialized hospitals and specialty hospitals, with the goal of adopting advanced medical achievements. Many medical facilities have mastered and effectively deployed advanced techniques such as open-heart surgery, endoscopic cardiac surgery, cardiovascular intervention, stroke treatment, ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), cancer treatment, kidney transplantation, and others. This endeavor is not only a step forward in professional expertise but also plays an important role in easing the burden on central-level hospitals, enabling people to access high-quality medical services right in their locality while saving on treatment costs and time.
Alongside the development of specialized healthcare, Dong Nai identifies grassroots healthcare as the foundation of a comprehensive healthcare system. Dong Nai has focused on investing in facilities and equipment for regional medical centers and commune-level health stations; at the same time, it has promoted training and technology transfer, gradually improving the capacity for initial examinations and treatment at the grassroots level.
The orientation for healthcare development in Dong Nai for the 2025–2030 period is clearly defined in the Action Program implementing the Resolution of the first Provincial Party Congress 2025–2030 term, aiming to build a modern healthcare network and comprehensively improve public health services. To achieve this, effective implementation of Politburo Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW on breakthrough solutions to strengthen the protection, care, and improvement of public health is essential. Accordingly, Dong Nai should simultaneously implement solutions to improve service quality; develop specialized healthcare in tandem with strengthening preventive medicine; and reinforce grassroots healthcare with a proactive approach to early and remote disease prevention.
At the core of this strategy is a shift in mindset from “treatment-centered” to “prevention-focused,” moving toward sustainable population health management. This challenge requires synchronized investment not only in infrastructure and equipment but also in human resources, the decisive factor in healthcare quality. Amid increasing competition for the medical workforce, Dong Nai needs strong policies to attract and retain qualified doctors and specialists, especially at the grassroots level. In addition to income policies, attention should be paid to working conditions, training opportunities, career development, and welfare factors, such as housing, to create long-term motivation among healthcare officials and workers.
A significant milestone opening up new development space for the healthcare sector is the establishment of Dong Nai City, effective from April 30, 2026. With its new status, the locality has more favorable conditions to mobilize resources and access specific mechanisms and policies to invest in developing a modern, synchronized, and integrated healthcare system. This occasion is an opportunity for Dong Nai to form specialized medical centers, gradually becoming a destination for high-quality healthcare in the region.
With the right direction, synchronized investment, and strong political determination, Dong Nai’s healthcare system has a solid foundation to achieve breakthroughs, better meet the healthcare needs of its people, and contribute to building a sustainable, civilized, and livable city.
