Accordingly, local hospitals and healthcare centres were asked to get ready to provide treatment to Ebola-suspected patients, while preparing measures to prevent the transmission of the disease.
Besides, healthcare facilities were also requested to set up isolation rooms, store medicine and have their staff practise steps of receiving and treating Ebola patients.
Director Nguyen Le Da Ha of Dong Nai Children Hospital said that his hospital established rapid response teams and fully prepared for the disease, with regards to equipping treatment and isolation wards and providing sufficient personal protective gear for medical workers.
The Department of Health also highlighted the need to run more communication campaigns to raise the community’s awareness about Ebola prevention and provide medical staff with guidance on the disease recognition along with treatment protocol.
Ebola is a severe acute viral illness often characterised by the sudden onset of fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headaches and a sore throat. It is spread through contact with an infected person's bodily fluids, such as sweat and blood.
According to the WHO, Ebola is marking its growing numbers in terms of infected cases and death toll. From December 2013 to October 25, 2014, there were 10,208 people contracting Ebola, of whom 4,971 people succumbed to the disease.
Vietnam generally and Dong Nai particularly had not recorded any Ebola cases, but the deadly virus may enter the province through tourists, guest workers coming from or others transiting via West African countries.
