Dong Nai City fighters win two gold medals at 2026 Muay World Championships

Dong Nai City fighters put in outstanding performances to win two gold medals, one silver and one bronze at the 2026 Muay World Championships in Kosovo.

The 2026 IFMA Senior All Disciplines World Championships took place from September 1 to 11 in Decan, Kosovo, bringing together nearly 100 delegations from several continents. Fighters competed in various Muay Thai disciplines, including combat, Wai Kru and Mai Muay, as well as events for Para and Special Athletes.

Vietnam sent a 20-member delegation to the championships, comprising one head of delegation, four coaches and 15 athletes. Dong Nai City contributed four members, including two coaches and two fighters. The event provided Vietnamese fighters with an opportunity to test themselves against leading international opponents, gain experience and improve their technical skills.

Vietnamese Muay made history by topping the overall medal table at the 2026 World Championships.

The Vietnamese Muay team concluded the 2026 World Championships with an impressive haul of 20 medals, including nine gold, six silver and five bronze medals, finishing first in the overall standings.

Notably, both Dong Nai City fighters on the Vietnamese Muay team delivered outstanding performances, winning gold medals and contributing to the delegation's overall success. Nguyen Hoang Son won gold in the championship Wai Kru performance event, as well as silver in the men's senior 48kg combat event. Meanwhile, Pham Hong Son teamed up with Duong Duc Bao to win gold in the men's championship Mai Muay performance event, while also securing bronze in the men's senior 54kg combat event.

Vietnam's first-place finish at the 2026 Muay World Championships further demonstrates the sport's progress on the international stage. The achievement is an encouraging result that will provide additional momentum for Vietnamese Muay as it sets its sights on bigger goals in the years ahead.
